How to Use and Implement the Bodmas Rule?
On September 13, 2021 by Morthe StandardBodmas explains the precedence order for solving or calculating the expressions of mathematics. This typically means that whenever you have to solve the expressions in math that have various sign combinations, we apply the BODMAS rule for solving the problems. First, we must simplify the brackets, of (roots and powers) and the like, later we divide, multiply, add and subtract, starting from the left towards the right. If you try to solve the problems without using the BODMAS rule or from the right-hand side to the left-hand side, you will never get the right answer. Famously known as Bodmas, it also has another name Pemdas. Which means,
B – Brackets P- Parentheses
O – Of, orders E- Exponents
D – Division D- Division
M – Multiplication M- Multiplication
A – Addition A- Addition
S – Subtraction S- Subtraction
Brackets form an integral part of mathematics; it makes the evaluation of mathematical expressions easier. Let’s understand with the help of this example, suppose you go to a store and buy 10 apples. 2 apples cost Rs. 10 each, out of the 4 were Rs 5 each, and the remaining 4 apples cost Rs. 20 each. How do you represent them mathematically?
The calculation will look like this: 2 × 10 + 5 × 4 + 4 × 20 = 120
Don’t you think the equation mentioned above, appears very puzzling? While assessing this expression, you are definitely going to get confused regarding solving the operation correctly, and you are sure to make errors. So how can this be represented with the use of brackets?
(2 × 10) + (5 × 4) + (4 × 20) = 120
This surely makes more sense than the previous one. The representation of the expression is done in an organized manner here. This shows that it is very important to use brackets for solving the problems of mathematics as you understand the order of operations clearly.
Solving typical equations requires the use of the Bodmas rule:
This rule makes it easier to solve the problems that need more than two solutions for solving the problem. If you have an equation where you have to divide, multiply and add together, how would you choose what to do first? Take the following example:
25 × 3 + 44 ÷ 4 =?
To solve a problem like this, the BODMAS rule gives us the right answer. It provides us with the rule of the order of precedence. So, as per the rule, first, you divide, then you multiply, and then add the numbers together.
44 ÷ 4 = 11
25 × 3 = 75
75 + 11 = 86
The answer that you get is 86.

How to Make Use of the Bodmas Rule?
This rule helps the students remember the proper order of following the actions of mathematics. When students have to complete a mathematical number ruling which includes several different approaches of operations, they know a proper order that has to be used for completing them.
The numbers inside the bracket have to be resolved first, then orders, after that the division or multiplication that has been given, and finally you add or subtract. It is very easy to understand the difficult problems with this rule. This rule is not like the usual hard and fast rule of mathematics.
As mentioned above, BODMAS is a very simple and easy rule that helps you solve very typical problems of mathematics. If you do not implement the rule properly, the answer that you get is never correct. So, for a deeper understanding of the subject, you must practice a lot of questions, and you have a lot of data available on the internet these days. Cuemath helps you solve various problems in this regard, which boosts your confidence to solve more problems with ease. This rule is not limited to a single chapter, if you get this right, you can solve various other problems with ease.
